The Gedling web site has been hosted for many years by
a company called
'Mistral Communications', a successor (several times
removed) to our original
host, 'internet in nottingham' (innotts). Mistral, in
turn, have now been bought
out by Kingston Communications, which afficiandos
will know is the privatised
version of the only public telephone company permitted
to operate in the
United Kingdom during the era of the GPO monopoly. That
company was run by
the municipality of Kingston-upon-Hull.
All successors to the 'innotts' company have continued
to support the 'innotts'
domain name - hence we have been able to retain
<www.innotts.co.uk/ramblers>
as our web site address. Recently however, during
a regrouping of resouces
(a change of server) of the newly merged company - Mistral
with
Kingston Communications - that web site address
has frequently been inaccessible,
although I am now assured that that troubled era is now
almost over.
Thus if you are having trouble, or if you keep our address
in some table or other,
perhaps I could inform you that to our service provider
we are more directly known
as <www.rambler.mistral.co.uk>,
and that that address, in a sense, is the more
up-to-date one. However the old 'innotts' address should
work. Note that the new
address embraces 'rambler' - not 'ramblers'.
I thought that you might like to know.
The e-mail side seems to have been unaffected and I remain <alec@innotts.co.uk>.
