SPADEWORK

Spadework is an initiative of the Notts County Council (NCC) to maintain and improve

the condition of footpaths and stiles, with the assistance of voluntary helpers. In our

case the area of activity is normally Gedling.

On the occasion of a Spadework day, helpers meet at Arnold Leisure Centre Car Park

at 0930hrs, and are transferred by minibus to a site or sites in the borough where remedial

work is necessary. The work is carried out under the guidance of an NCC coordinator.

Tea and coffee is provided by NCC but as the work normally embraces the lunch period,

a packed lunch is advised. It can be good fun, worthwhile and constructive.

Alas, the maximum parking duration at Arnold Leisure Centre on a Saturday precludes leaving a car there for the duration of a Spadework session.

Our numbers have been increasing...but we could always do with more help..

The work days in the new programme are Saturdays, 5th April 2008, 3rd May 2008, 19th July 2008, 9th August 2008 and 13th September 2008 Start 0930 from Arnold Leisure Centre.
